Phytochemical screening, antioxidant and cytoprotective activities of fruit pulp extracts from Adansonia digitata L. (Bombacaceae) and Ziziphus mauritiana Lam. (Rhamnaceae)

This work was carried out as part of my Master’s degree research.
The study evaluates the phytochemical content and bioactivity of fruit pulp extracts from two trees widely used in West Africa — Adansonia digitata (baobab, Bombacaceae) and Ziziphus mauritiana (jujube, Rhamnaceae). Both species are consumed nutritionally and used in traditional medicine across the Sahel.
We screened the extracts for major secondary metabolites, then assessed their antioxidant capacity and their cytoprotective activity in a relevant cellular model, to give a pharmacological basis to the traditional uses.
